Used Engines for sale: The future looks good..

July 31st, 2009

The government’s popular “cash for clunkers” program may be running out of money after only a matter of days as car shoppers flock to dealerships to take advantage of the rebates. After writing a post on the CARS program this would have on people who own an old clunker and want to replace the engine in their clunker from a clunker with a good used engine, this is good news.

The White House said Thursday it was assessing its options amid concerns the $1 billion budget for rebates for new car sales may have been depleted. The program officially began last week and has been heavily publicized by automakers and dealers.

Transportation Department officials called lawmakers earlier Thursday to alert them of plans to suspend the program as early as Friday. But a White House official said later the program had not been suspended and they were reviewing their options to keep the program funded.

Called the Car Allowance Rebate System, or CARS, the program offers owners of old cars and trucks dating back to 1984, $3,500 or $4,500 toward a new, more fuel-efficient vehicle, in exchange for junking and ruining their old vehicle. Congress last month approved the plan to boost auto sales and remove some inefficient cars and trucks from the roads.

The program was scheduled to last through Nov. 1 or until the money ran out, but few predicted it would be depleted in days. Through late Wednesday, 22,782 vehicles had been purchased through CARS and nearly $96 million had been spent.

It suggested that with about 23,000 dealers taking part in the program, car dealers may already have surpassed the 250,000 vehicle sales funded by the $1 billion program.

Lawmakers said they would try to find additional funding for the program, which under the legislation could grow to $4 billion for the funding of up to 1 million new car sales.

Cash for Clunkers‘ is a good idea for some folks. I still think it undermines all the people who can barely afford a used engine to keep their clunker on the road, let alone going into major debt for a new car. Practice what I preach. Clunker or not, if a new car costs 25,000 bucks, less 4500 bucks= 20,500 bucks-2000 bucks for a good used engine and installation and any related repairs=18,500 dollars. That buys a lot of gas for the person who is on a tight budget and simply can’t get a loan or is not interested in a new car.

Think about it, Cash for Clunkers is not for everyone, trust me when I say GotEngines.com can set you up with the used engine of your choice, which in most cases beats the heck out of a car loan. You all have good minds, use them wisely when it is time to replace your engine

Izuzu Engines for Sale..

July 31st, 2009

Izuzu has produced both their own engines, and made use of General Motors-built engines. Isuzu has also produced engines for sale for General Motors, Honda, and Toyota.

It gets confusing and perhaps not important from here on, to write any type of sensible article on all of the automotive applications for Izuzu engines, made by Izuzu for their cars, and made by other auto makers, also used by Izuzu vehicles.

For those of you interested in the full list of Izuzu engines, you can see how complicated it is in this article on Wikipedia.

For those of you who simply have a need for an Izuzu engine for sale, get your VIN out and call the specialists at GotEngines.com @ 1-877-268-0664. The choices available when it comes to engines for sale include, used engines, rebuilt or remanufactured engines and JDM engine for the foreign engine market.

Used engines cost less than new cars… cash for clunkers.

July 30th, 2009

The Cash for Clunker bill was recently passed and many Americans may be falsely excited to find out which cars are eligible. The plan basically says that the government will pay $4500 towards a new fuel efficient car if you trade-in your old clunker. All I ask is to weigh out buying a used engine for your car, compared to a new car. Here is the plan.

1) Operational.
2) Rated at no more than 18 miles per gallon (m.p.g.) combined city/highway. (Check your car’s rating here.)
3) A 1984 model or newer.
4) Worth less than $4,500 – or in some cases, $3,500. (The program just bumps up the trade-in value of your car to one of those amounts; you don’t get extra).
5) Owned by you for at least a year (so you can’t go out and buy one at the junkyard and then turn around and trade it in).

The only way you will truly know if your car can be traded in is to actually contact the auto maker companies. I am sure there will be many advertisements on both the television and Internet. It is highly likely that these ads will lead to an 800 number in which you can call a representative.

My perspective on this is that if you have a “clunker” and it needs a replacement engine and a few other repairs, yet it is in good overall condition. Is it a better choice to get your ‘big‘ cash rebate, yet still go into big debt buying a new car. Realistically speaking, you will owe a very significant amount of money to the bank for the difference in price on a new car, even with a cash rebate, that is not cash, over a used engine.

There are many positives about the program, which is designed to get rid of less efficient cars for hi efficiency new cars. It also stimulates the car companies. The cash rebate deal is great if you really need a new car, and obviously it will be good for the environment. But economically challenged people, some of which may not even qualify for a loan to pay for the new car would save money by purchasing a good used engine and handling any related repairs over the cost of new car.

Before you go into big debt, have your car examined by a professional mechanic, you may save more money than a cash for clunker rebate by fixing the car you have. If you need a replacement engine, call the experts at GotEngines.com for an engine that fits your best interests. Now you are saving money. Used engine recyclers leery of cash for clunkers

July 29th, 2009

Not all auto recyclers are thrilled at the government’s new cash for clunkers program, which requires car dealers to destroy the gas-guzzlers they get as trade-ins from new car buyers.

Used engines and drive-trains are a big part of recyclers’ income from each scrapped car, and under the federal program those engines must be destroyed. The idea is to promote fuel efficiency and help automakers, but it comes at a time when more than a dozen U.S. auto parts suppliers have filed for bankruptcy this year

Used engines and drive-trains account for 60 percent of recyclers’ revenue from a wrecked or used vehicle.

Under cash for clunkers, the government is advising car dealers to replace a trade-in’s engine oil with a sodium silicate solution and run the engine to ruin it before giving or selling the car to a scrap dealer.

The Automotive Recyclers Association says that can damage otherwise sell-able parts like pistons — and mean smaller profits for scrap yards, considering it can cost $700 to $1,200 to process a car, including transport and removing toxic items like mercury

The cash for clunkers program, officially called the Car Allowance Rebate System, took effect July 1, and rules were published Friday. It offers drivers who trade in qualifying vehicles up to a $4,500 credit toward a new, more fuel-efficient car from participating dealers. The government reimburses dealer

Some recyclers say cash for clunkers will hurt lower-income buyers who can’t afford a new car, even with the federal credit. They also claim that destroying vehicles will increase prices for spare parts as economy woes customers are experiencing who are depending on used parts to keep their cars running.

Now we are trashing car parts people could afford, and they’re not available anymore, There will be less cars to pull from, so the price of parts will go up for older vehicles.

At many warehouses, used transmissions and engines fill shelves stacked almost as high as the ceiling. Outside, rows of salvaged car doors hang from racks. Many parts are being stockpiled so parts are available for years to come.

Despite their misgivings, some auto recyclers are urging dealers to send the trade-ins to them instead of to auctioneers who could serve as middlemen for scrap yards.

This could be a big blow to consumers with older cars. I see no way it will adversely affect the used engine market for newer more efficient cars and wrecked low mileage vehicles with good used engines. For those in the market for a use engine for an older car, GotEngines.com has spent a tremendous amount of time and energy locating the small fleets of used engine suppliers with older engines that are certified good used and have plenty of life left in them.

“It is not always about the price or profit at GotEngines.com” as Brian Hanson the owner told me. “It is worth the extra effort to make sure everyone has all options open to them when it comes down to purchasing a good used engine. Keeping our customers happy and adapting to the times is one of our secrets to success.”

Used engines for sale: Low miles / Great price…

July 28th, 2009

About 6 or7 years ago my 1988 GMC 1 ton 4X4 pickup, without dual rear wheels, almost forced me to buy a low mileage used engine. It has the trusty 5.7 L or 350 cubic inch engine with TBI. I don’t drive very much. I worked about 6 miles round trip from my repair shop and drove about 4000 miles a year. To this day it only has 93000 original miles on it and it runs so good and looks so fine people want to buy it from me all the time. Not For Sale.

Understand that I have an advantage in terms of doing my own repair work, which saves the labor costs, so I would rather approach this as a consumer. If it was not fun or convenient for me to do my own labor, which would have been about 1000 dollars, It would take less than a nano second for me to decide that a low mileage good used engine was in my near future.

That being said, it developed what seemed to be a ‘deep‘ engine knocking sound. It ran great though. Being curious we took the top end of the engine apart first to inspect the heads and valve train. For all practical purposes we found nothing wrong. However, my gut feeling was it was not in the bottom half of the engine. Since the heads were off I had them examined and a valve job performed. If I were not curious and did not have the skills to investigate further into the engine, I would have been on the phone to Gotengines.com, ASAP and ordering a late model low mileage used Chevy engine for my truck right away. I need my truck.

My curiosity paid off, eventually I found one of the hydraulic lifters had literally ‘come apart‘. At that point, for me it became a no-brainer to buy the parts and fix it. I have the skills and special tools to perform this task. It was more work fixing the engine , than changing the whole engine with a used engine, as I said labor was not an issue.

Realistically speaking it would have cost a paying customer about the same amount of money to do this repair as opposed to getting a quality low mileage used Chevy 3500 engine and bolting it in.

My point is that when you look at the big picture, which is to get the vehicle on the road as fast as possible for an affordable cost, than a used engine would be a choice in the customers best interests. In 99% of the cases the used engine has less miles on it than the damaged engine in the vehicle you own. The nice part about a used engine with low mileage is that all of the parts have low mileage too, to repair an engine with lots of miles on it (100,00 plus) may create a situation for some of the other original engine parts to fail soon.

Honda engines: H-series engines for sale.

July 28th, 2009

The first application for the H-series four-cylinder Honda engine was on the tip of the Japanese market Honda Prelude Si VTEC of late 1991.

The H-series engine is designed for transverse mounting and, in the Prelude, is available with either a five-speed manual gearbox or a four-speed auto. Transverse is equal to a front wheel drive engine, which is located east to west on the north to south axis of the car. Basic front wheel drive application.

Interestingly, the H-series four was never used in anything other than the Prelude, Accord, Ascot Innova and Torneo Euro R. Production ended when the K-series four appeared in 2002. It’s difficult to understand why the H-series VTEC engines – the biggest of all Honda VTEC fours – are largely underrated. They have proven very reliable (early ‘90s Prelude VTi-Rs are still going strong) and they’re one of the ultimate atmo fours on the market.

Being very friendly to the high performance market is one of the reasons these engines became so popular with track racers. Accepting such modifications as turbochargers and super chargers and other extreme performance modifications, with little or no structural problems proves that these engines were durable and efficient.

Because this is a Japanese car, it gives the best used engine suppliers such as GotEngines.com an advantage, that translates into a favorable situation for you, the customer. The advantage is, because of their integrity and time tested formula for success, the availability of a JDM engine for sale (Japanese Domestic Market) is made easier due to the large network of suppliers they have to choose from. The JDM ships thousands of low mileage used engines here every year, most of them have roughly 40,000 miles on them.

Another time tested avenue to pursue is a low mileage used engine from a wrecked or totaled car. Not every supplier has access to the most affordable low mileage used engines of this ilk. Only the most reputable and ethical companies have acess to the premium low mileage domestic engines. Trust me when I say “not every engine supplier has the credentials” to buy the cream of the crop used engines for sale.

Searching for the best price is one of the most important issues when one is in the market for a replacement engine. Don’t shoot yourself in the foot though, price is not the only reason to purchase an engine, the quality and long term success is just important. Read through our GotEngines.com blog. We have an article on the Honda H221A engine in particular. Read and enjoy.

Used Engines: Honda H22A1 engines for sale…

July 28th, 2009

The primary applications of the Honda engine H series were the fourth- and fifth-generation Honda Prelude, The H22A debuted in 1993 for use in the Honda Prelude VTEC as the H22A1. Versions of the H22A would be the Prelude’s signature high-performance engine worldwide until the end of Prelude production in 2001. It has also enjoyed some success as a racing engine.

The standard choices are all available at one of their network locations nearest you. My recommendation would be one of the low mileage used engines that came out of a wrecked car that was in excellent condition prior to being totaled. In fact. if the transmission is in as good of shape as the engine it is attached to, that would be a perfect combination to install in your car. Basically. the whole package could be slipped in as one unit. Purchasing both units together might even get you a better price.

Another viable, affordable and terrific way to go is what is called a JDM engine. This type of used engine, in my opinion is unbeatable. Since in Japan, the regulations on emissions are much more strict, at 40,000 miles the people in Japan have to take what we (USA) consider a low mileage used engine out of the car and install a new engine in the car or buy a new car. Either way, these excellent low mileage used engines and transmissions get shipped to the USA for sale.

They all get their emissions updated to US standards and go through a rigid pre-testing routine to make sure that not only is the integrity of the engine solid, but the electrical components are working correctly. When you call the gentlemen at GotEngines.com, ask them about A JDM transmission to match. Based on the mass usage of the H22A1 engine, particularly in the Prelude series of Homda cars, their should be an abundance of these engines for sale in the used engine choice you decide on.

My last advise is to understand more about what you want, become an educated consumer, learn more about Honda engines and Honda cars in general on our Blog. Trust me when I say GotEngines.com is more than about pricing only. Their commitment is to deliver, ASAP, a trouble free used Prelude engine at the most affordable price. Price shopping is good, but don’t let a low price blind you from long term success.

Chevy engines for sale: Chevy “Big Block”

July 26th, 2009

My favorite engine of all times is the Generation II, Mark IV series Chevrolet ‘Big Block’ introduced in 1963 as a special ‘mystery motor’. It is kinda freaky to think about it now, in 2009 at how many of these coveted engines GM innocently installed in the entire car line. With the continued development of cars and trucks in the ’60’s they started to gain weigh, so Chevy introduced a bigger engine, that was the idea at time time, pure and simple. It was used in the big heavy station wagons in  detuned versions, to haul the kids around. They also had a bunch of hi-performance versions for cars like the Vette and Chevelle SS series.

Chevrolet produced the Big Block 427 until the mid 1990’s. The only 427 Chevy engines were available from 1972 to 1995 was a truck version that was used in GM medium duty trucks such as the Chevrolet Kodiak and GMC Top Kick until 1995. Throttle body electronic fuel injection was used on the 427 from 1988 to 1995.

My favorite Big Block was the 1966 427 cubic inch “Rat Motor”. It was designated as the L-72 engine and had 425 horsepower. Before I go any further, you could order a bone-stock Chevy Biscayne in 1966 with the only option being an L-72 engine, a Muncie M-22 “rock crusher” 4-speed transmission and a posi-traction rear end. We called it a ‘Bisquick’ back then. Nowadays when you see a stripped down car, it almost inevitably has a 4 cylinder engine in it.

The car that my Big Block Chevy engine came in was a 1966 Corvette, it has the rock crusher transmission and posi-traction rear. BYW, the ‘Vette was a bad ass car, it was the first American car to have 4 wheel disc brakes and an independent rear suspension (of production cars).

The engine was L-72 model and had an aluminum intake manifold and giant carburetor. The crankshaft, pistons and rods were forged steel instead of nodular iron. It came with an aggressive camshaft design and solid lifters. The heads were cast iron, but had the same port design as the aluminum L-88 heads. With 11 to 1 compression, it was a serous performance engine, not for the light hearted.

These engines were transmission breaking, tire burning propulsion devises that started the generation of cars with Big Engines. Like the Dodge Magnum with a 440 cubic inch engine, or the GTO with 389 cubic inch engine, three deuces and a 4 speed transmission. Even the Camaro and Firebird were not exempt from the giant ‘motors’, as we called them back then. It was a fun time for young car lovers to grow up. It was also one of the reasons I became a mechanic.

I can’t say I ever blew up or damaged my Big Block, but my friends were putting themselves in spots where they needed to find an engine for sale fast. I messed around with changing camshafts and intake manifolds and carburetors constantly. I drove the heck out of it too. I broke a lot of Muncie M-22 transmissions and many clutches though. I don’t think it was luck that I never needed a rebuilt or replacement engine. It was more the over-maintenance I performed and my natural instinct to know when to back off right before it explodes.

Every one should have a ride in one of the real, original muscle cars. If you think you have a fast car now, you ain’t seen nothing yet! It is remarkable to think about how computerized and luxurious it is to go fast now. Porsche cars are rated the best made, most trouble free cars made every year it seems, and it is worthy of that title, for that matter it will outperform my old Vette. The difference is the raw unadulterated power and lack of any luxury devices, just pure, raw go fast. The ultimate feeling for a car enthusiast.

Back then if you needed a replacement engine, you had to call about 1000 junk yards, locate the engine and actually go to the junk yard with your own tools and remove your own parts, an engine in this case. No guarantees, other than it runs. For a small faction of people, like me it was fun going to the junk yard, but most people don’t like to. Now, we can call companies like GotEngines.com @ 1-877-268-0664 and order a guaranteed pre-tested used engine, or a long term guaranteed rebuilt engine over the Internet or phone at a great price and have it delivered to your door or your favorite repair shop in no time at all. Good luck.
