Engine News and Tips: What Is Engine Sludge?

October 29th, 2009

Engine sludge is the thick, dark substance that can build up and clog the oil passages within engines. Sludge build-up can lead to reduced gas mileage, decreased engine performance and, in some cases, engine seizure. Once sludge builds up in an engine, it is difficult, if not impossible, to remove!

Mobil 1 engine oil.

Mobil 1 engine oil.

WHAT CAUSES SLUDGE?

1. Extending oil drains: Mechanics and industry experts suggest you follow your manufacturer’s oil drain recommendation for your type of driving. However, you cannot go wrong using the 3,000 mile or 3 month, whichever comes first, drain interval rule. Either way, regular oil change intervals are the best thing you can do for your engine. If you extend your oil changes, you are leaving your car vulnerable to dangerous sludge build-up.

2. Driving styles: It all depends on how hard you drive your car or truck and it’s intended purposes. Hard driving causes the oils to get hotter and breakdown, causing sludge.

3. Environment: Excessive heat and humidity as well as excessively cold weather can contribute to sludge build-up.

4. Several other factors: Many newer engines can be prone to sludge, and several other driving behaviors such as towing a trailer or boat can cause sludge.

The Toyota Sienna Van has complaints of engine sludge issues. In reality, Toyota has avoided presenting why this may be an issue. The bottom line is that the most common way an engine builds sludge is by not changing the engine oil regularly or perhaps using a conventional oil instead of synthetic oil.

Realistically speaking, using conventional oil and not changing it regularly is a recipe for disaster. The factory oil fill are synthetic engine oils. Plenty of lubrication joints use conventional oils (much cheaper) where synthetic oil is needed. Which can cause sludge problems and subsequent engine failures. Make sure you ask for synthetic engine oil, or go somewhere else.

GotEngines.com is in the business of selling engines. However we provide this type of information as a courtesy. There is no joy in dealing with a person with an engine failure, especially a premature failure. Call 1-877-268-0664..

Izuzu Engines For Sale: Upgraded and Affordable..

October 28th, 2009

One of Japan’s largest automobile and truck companies and most prominent names is Isuzu. Used for commercial purposes and for private vehicles, they manufacture some of the world’s most popular engines on and off the road. Isuzu cars and trucks are even used by car rental companies, as their transportation vehicle of choice. With some of the most commonly owned vehicles, and sales on almost every continent in the world, Isuzu engines and parts are always in high demand.

Access to necessary replacement engines can be difficult at times, and can keep your business or personal vehicle off the road. Keep your business from losing it’s ass, and you losing your mind, and make engine replacement easier than ever. It is not necessary to waste a bunch of time looking through the phone book or calling salvage yards when using the internet is so easy.

Although Isuzu trucks are built to endure heavy loads and endless amounts of work, there is no guarantee that it will stay functioning at the best of its ability. Malfunctions can happen anytime, and anywhere. Get your maintenance parts before they disrupt your business flow. Isuzu brand engine parts are always in high demand, and in most cases have to be ordered.

You can rest easier on the complications of purchasing an Izuzu Engine for sale. That is one of the top reasons to call GotEngines.com @ 1-877-268-0664 if you reach the point where you need to replace your Izuzu Engine. Engine Repair Shops: Coast to Coast Coverage

October 27th, 2009

One of our goals is to become the largest supplier of engines in the country. Our tremendous resources and network of qualified recycling facilities gives us outlets from New York to California. We have been the choice of professional engine repair shops for years and now we are expanding our assistance to anyone who needs a quality replacement engine. One of the benefits of having sold so many engines to repair shops is that we get to know some of the better repair shops in those areas.

As I speak we are putting together a list of the best engine and motor repair shops and replacement shops in the many areas we sell our engines. Simply put, we feel that a quality product such as the used engines or rebuilt engines we sell should be installed by the most competent shops. This serves two purposes.

The first purpose is that it insures your used or rebuilt engine was installed correctly and all supporting systems were repaired or updated for maximum efficiency.

The other reason may seem self fulfilling, however when you sell a quality product as we do, it serves us well also to have a competent replacement shop do the installation. The net effect is that it lowers any installation problems dramatically, which makes the overall experience good for you, the consumer, and us, the supplier.

As far as I’m concerned quality begets quality and good repairs begets good repairs. Beget means “produces”, so when I say quality begets quality, I mean that people who instill quality into a product or service, helps to produce more and more quality for the service or product.

With that in mind if you have the need for one of our low mileage used engines, in the majority of cases we can recommend a local repair shop considered to be trustworthy and reliable. It goes hand in hand with selling engines to shops all over the country.

If you have a mechanic you trust, then go with that shop. If you want to give out a recommendation for that shop. Let us know in the comment box. We will be adding more and more automotive shops as we develop a list.

We welcome your inquiries about replacement engines and who is a reputable engine installation shop in your town. GotEngines.com has outperformed the competition in the replacement engine field by always thinking a step ahead of everyone else. When you need any sort of replacement engines call us @ 1-877-268-0664 for a free quote and advise on which one of our particular engines is in your best interest.

1990–1992 Geo Prizm Engines: 4A-FE or optional 4A-GE engine.

October 26th, 2009

The Geo Prizm was a combined effort of both General Motors and Toyota.  Meant to be an entry level compact car, the Prizm was part of the General Motors entry into small import vehicles. The Prizm replaced the good old Chevy Nova and was initially offered with a 130 horsepower twin-cam Japanese engines.

In 1998 General Motors decided that the Geo brand name was confusing some of their consumers and the decision was made to change the Prizm and all other Geo models over to the Chevrolet brand name. It was felt that Geo lacked the name brand and the selling power and legend of the Chevrolet name. And in fact the name change did make a difference, revving sagging sales and allowing the Prizm to make some marks in Ford’s grip on the domestic compact car sales.

1998 was the last redesign seen by the Prizm engines before Chevrolet dropped the product from its line up in 2002.

With this knowledge available it is somewhat less confusing. However by finding the engine supply company who has the best educational program can be of great assistance in determining which engine suits your best interests. Trust me, from being in the car repair business for over 40 years, any company that takes the time to provide some education so you can make a good decision has a leg up on it’s competitors.

That is why GotEngines.com has performed their jobs at a higher level than the competition. Our goal is to educate our clients anf then outfit them with the best engines in our inventory, one that meet your exact needs and beats your expectations. Don’t waste money on the wrong engine, Call us now @ 1-877-268-0664 for free advise and quotes from a professional.

Geo Engines (Toyota) in stock for sale: Cheap and Reliable

October 26th, 2009

Geo was introduced in 1989 as a brand of small cars and SUVs marketed by General Motors as a subdivision of their Chevrolet division. Originally formed by GM to compete with the growing small import market of the late 1980s, the line continued through the 1998 model year, after which the remaining models joined the Chevrolet lineup.

All Prizms were powered by the same Toyota engines as the then present Toyota Corolla models.

  • 1990–1992 Geo Prizms were powered by the 4A-FE or optional 4A-GE engine.
  • 1993–1997 Geo Prizms were powered by the 4A-FE or optional 7A-FE engine.
  • 1998–2002 Chevy Prizms were equipped with Toyota’s 1.8 L 1ZZ-FE I4 engine; 2000–2002 models included VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing with Intelligence) technology.

Another example of an American car that is powered by a Japanese or Foreign engine. Not that any of the Geo’s were best sellers, there are still plenty of them on the road that need service work and engine work. The good news in terms of engines for the Geo Prizm, in particular, is that they used reliable and affordable Toyota engines.

The Geo was introduced to the GM line as one of the first fuel efficient small cars. Hoping to compete with the Japanese cars. Although it had less success than expected, when it comes to engine repairs or engine replacement, it really comes down to a Toyota engine. Which there seems to be plenty of.

With so many good choices available from good used engines to rebuilt engines and our famous lines of JDM engines for sale, we have you covered. When I speak of covered I mean it. We offer a very inexpensive labor warranty to cover labor charges if you have a re-occurrence under warranty. Thus making this a nationwide guarantee.

The best way to make a final decision is to call GotEngines.com @ 1-877-268-0664 and speak with a down to earth engine sales expert. Let us help you decide which engines for sale is in your best interest.

We sell a lot of Used Toyota Camry 5SFE Engines?

October 25th, 2009

While looking into why so many Toyota Camry 5SFE Engines are being sold, I came across this complaint. It seems to encompass the entire realm of problems a blown engine can cause and why you should know who to buy your used engine from. Believe me, this guy could have done better than a used engine with 90,000 miles on it. Read below…

Problem: 2000 Camry LE – 5SFE Engine. 77K Miles. Motor had been burning a little oil at startup (possible bad valve stem seals) and had been doing so for about 4-6 months. Toyota told us that since we did our own regular maintenance, that we did not qualify for the recall on these engines. My wife had gotten laid off in beginning of August 08, I had just changed oil in July 08. Beginning of Nov 08, started car up to a substantial rod knock. Took it to a mechanic to get another motor put into it asap due to her starting a new job within a week (at that time). This ‘new’ motor had approx 90K miles on it and now about 7 months or so later, it is now starting to puff oil smoke upon startup (same thing the original motor did when this started).

Have already spent 2600 to replace original motor plus the time and hassle of being down a vehicle for about a week. Now we are looking to have to spend another 1000-2000+ to rebuild the original motor (we bought it back) not to mention all the time, effort, downtime and extra costs it will take to rebuild and install the original motor while we have a whole family event every day taking mom to work while her car is down.

When you can purchase used foreign car engines for autos with close to only 40,000 miles on them, with only a tiny amount of research, why settle for a worn out used engine? With an investment of $2600.00 the first time, the tiny amount of research would have paid off. He could easily have gotten a low mileage used engine from a qualified engine supplier and have it installed for the same money.
Obviously he did not Google “Used Engines” or he would have found us immediately and ended up in a better situation than he is now.
It does not cost anymore to buy a low mileage used motor than a worn out motor. It is mostly about the ethics of the company. GotEngines.com has been outperforming the competition by selling the best engines available. All are pre tested before leaving the facility. Call GotEngines.com @ 1-877-268-0664 for any questions you have or advise you need.

2007 KIA Engine Optima Timing Chain Problems..

October 24th, 2009

Question: MY CAR JUST STOPPED. THERE COULD HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT HAD I NOT GOTTEN OFF THE ROAD IN TIME. I WAS ON ROUTE 68, A 4 LINE HIGHWAY. COME TO FIND OUT THE TIMING CHAIN AND TIMING TENSIONER BROKE, WHICH THE MANUFACTURE KNEW WOULD HAPPEN BECAUSE ALL THE REPAIR BOOKS SAY TO HAVE IT CHANGED AT ABOUT 65,000 TO 75,000 MILES. NOBODY TOLD ME THAT. IF MY CHILDREN WOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE CAR AT THE TIME NEEDLESS TO SAY IF MY WIFE WOULD HAVE BEEN DRIVING INSTEAD OF ME WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED. IT IS COSTING ME OVER $2,300.00 TO HAVE IT FIXED. NEEDLESS TO SAY HAD I BEEN WARNED I WOULD HAVE HAD IT REPLACED. *TR

Answer: The Kia engines use a timing belt, not a timing chain. Timing belts have to be changed at the proper intervals suggested by manufacturers. Usually about 75,000 miles is the area when you need to change it.

First off, it is not the dealer or manufacturers responsibility to teach you to read the manual that comes with the car or LOOK under the hood. There is a fairly large sticker which says “Warning: Timing belt has to be changed every 75,000 miles”

Ignorance is not a good excuse when it is very clearly stated in the owners manual, it is all explained clearly. If I was in your spot, I would never pay that type of money to fix an engine. Not when I can buy a good used engine with 40,000 miles or less for less than $2300.00.

Unfortunately, you may have to bite the bullet and buy one of our many exchange motors for sale. As I said, a low mileage used engine may be your best choice. To find out exactly what you need for a replacement engine, Call GotEngines.com @ 1-877-268-0664 and speak with a courteous and knowledgeable expert on Kia engines and find out how we can provide you with the best used engines, backed by the best warranty from the most competitive engine replacement company in the continental US.

New Ford Power Stroke Diesel Engine meets new emissions standards

October 23rd, 2009

The new Ford 6.7-liter Power Stroke V-8 turbocharged diesel engines will employ an after treatment system to help comply with 2010 federal regulations to reduce nitrogen oxide levels in diesel emissions by more than 80 percent compared with the previous standards. The Ford after treatment system is a three-stage process; a key component is the use of Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF).

Injection of DEF to reduce NOx is a proven technology that’s been used throughout the automotive industry. Unlike other solutions used to control NOx, the DEF system allows the diesel engine to run at its optimum range in terms of fuel mixture. Some systems require the engine to run richer – which can be harmful to diesel engines – in order to control the NOx.

Step #1. Cleaning and Heating – The first step in cleaning the diesel exhaust occurs when the exhaust gasses enters the Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC). The role of the DOC is twofold. #1. it converts and oxidizes hydrocarbons into water and carbon dioxide. This conversion happens at about 250 degrees Celsius. #2.1. The DOC is used to provide and promote heat, using specific engine management strategies, into the exhaust system. Through appropriate thermal management, this heat increases the conversion efficiency of the downstream subsystem(s) in reducing emissions.

Step #2. Knocking Out the NOx – The next step in the process is what’s known as Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR). In this process, the NOx in the exhaust stream is converted into water and inert nitrogen, which is present in the atmosphere and harmless. Before the exhaust gas enters the SCR chamber, it is dosed with DEF, an aqueous solution that is approximately 67.5 percent water and 32.5 percent pure urea.

When heated, the DEF splits into ammonia and carbon dioxide. These molecules are atomized and vaporized, then enter a mixer that resembles a corkscrew. This twist mixer evenly distributes the ammonia within the exhaust flow. The ammonia enters the SCR module, which contains a catalyzed substrate (The material or substance on which an enzyme acts.), and through chemical reactions combines and converts the NOx and ammonia into the harmless inert nitrogen and water. Dosing occurs between 200 and 500 degrees Celsius.

Step #3. Scrubbing Away the Soot – The final part of the cleansing system for the diesel exhaust gas involves the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). The DPF traps any remaining soot, which is then periodically burned away, known as regenerating, when sensors detect the trap is full. The regeneration process sees temperatures in excess of 600 degrees Celsius to burn away soot.

Quieter, more refined diesel sound for improved NVH performance
Customers of the 6.7-liter Power Stroke turbocharged diesel engine will notice a quieter, more refined sound. Improvements to the combustion system, structural integrity of the compacted graphite iron block and the single turbocharger mounted to the engine block account for many of the NVH improvements.

Specific design upgrades were made to both the piston and the piston bowl to optimize the combustion process, which features a two-stage combustion event instead of a single-injection event, causing harsh, sudden and loud combustion. Instead, a starter or pilot injection of fuel begins the combustion process before the main injection.

The result is smoother combustion and a more refined sound for the customer. When at idle, two pilot injection events are used to make the firing process even smoother and aid in quietness. The “ticking” of the high-speed injectors also is quieted by specially designed covers on the engine.

Mounting the turbocharger from the center housing directly to the block provided several advantages as well in terms of NVH.

Using one turbocharger, instead of two operating in series or sequentially, helped solve some NVH challenges as well.

Other improvements include the addition of two resonators in the intake system as well as a third resonator near the air cleaner.

The new diesel engine, which will be built at Chihuahua Engine Plant, is the perfect complement to the 2011 Ford Super Duty, delivering both capability and reliability.

Developing the new 6.7-liter Power Stroke V-8 turbocharged diesel engine is a big deal,  after all the engineering and testing, they are confident this engine will ensure the new Super Duty continues its leadership in capability, reliability and productivity.

In need of diesel engines for sale? GotEngines.com has a complete line of used and remanufactured diesel engines in stock.
