BMW engines: Z4 Roadster 3.0L and 2.5L M54 engine family..

August 11th, 2009

BMW launched the Z4 roadster on 22 October 2002. The production of the new Z4 Roadster started in 2003 to replace the old Z3. The primary BMW engines are the powerful 6-cylinder 2.5 & 3.0 models.
Both are smooth and powerful 6-cylinder engines utilizing some of the the most hi tech systems available at any cost to provide this roadster with enough go fast to compete with the Porsche Boxter.

In a veritable ocean of V-6 engines, BMW manufactures this unique and performance oriented engine with its unusual, and in BMW’s opinion superior, inline-6 configuration.

The Z4 is powered by two versions of the current BMW M54 6-cylinder engine family, Then there are the magical 6-cylinder power trains that spin with velvety smoothness while delivering thrust completely disproportionate to their size.

In addition to its six inline cylinders, this powerful engine design features:

* Aluminum construction, contributing to vehicle performance by keeping unsprung weight down.
* Dual overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder.
* Chain camshaft drive, requiring no periodic replacement.
* Double VANOS steplessly variable valve timing, enhancing torque, power and emission control.
* Hydraulic valve adjustment for consistent sound and reduced maintenance.
* Electronic throttle system (“drive by wire”) for smooth, precisely tuned throttle action and, Dynamic Stability Control and other features. This also facilitates a unique option called Dynamic Driving Control. Electronically controlled engine cooling, enabling precise and purposeful control of engine thermal efficiency which in turn contributes to fuel efficiency and performance.

With all these elements of engine architecture shared, two versions of this power plant power the two Z4 models:
Z4 3.0L and the Z4 2.5L engines.

Both of these engines are fairly spicy performance engines. Seeming trouble free for the most part, finding a good used replacement engine for one of these beauties is easier than you may think if you know who to deal with. BMW owners should be choosy about who they deal with in terms of locating used foreign engines that are both low mileage and have been through a strict pre-testing procedure.

Obviously BWM owners may be less price sensitive than the owner of an older budget car, but the fact remains that GotEngines.com treats every customer like they own a BMW and want the same quality of product a BWM owner may want. That being said, the beauty of buying a used engine for your BMW Z4 or a 2001 Plymouth Neon, every one wants a good used engine at a good price. This is where GotEngines.com has outperformed the other engine suppliers. As far as they are concerned the products they sell are all of equal quality, and just because you drive a Beemer does not mean you will pay more. That is a guarantee, trust me.

  2. valve replacement says:

Complex control systems using valves requires an automatic control based input of an actuator. The actuator strokes the valve allowing the valve to be positioned accurately and allowing control over a variety of requirements.
