Buick Engines: Repair driveability problems
The first step in diagnosing any car is to take a good look at the engine, since we are looking for an engine problem in this case. If nothing stands out, then there is only one way to handle it properly. Regardless of if you are a DIYer or don’t have clue, it is imperative to have the engine scanned. I don’t own a scan tool anymore, it stayed with my shop when I sold it. We used a Snap On scanner, anyone who uses one knows it costs over 4000.00 dollars minimum. Not an ordinary home owners tool.

Affordable hand held home scan/code readers can be purchased for less than 200.00 bucks if you are so inclined. What I do, since I’m going to fix it myself is go to the dealership and pay them the 75.00 bucks to got through a full scan process and provide me with a printout and a diagnosis. I’m not a fan of changing parts until the problem goes away. Waste of money.

Once I get my diagnosis, iI will speak with the technician who diagnosed the problem and go home and set up to fix the problem.

My suspicion is a suspicion, which is only a guess, so don’t read anything into it. Even if you experience a similar problem, do not assume you have the same problem as my car does, many different problems have similar symptoms.

With that being said, I suspect it is a drivability problem, which is a ‘tune up’ problem. What I mean to say is that my thoughts lead me to thinking it has a failing spark plug wire or a spark plug starting to get weak. What ever the problem is, I’m likely to change the spark plugs and wires anyway.

Remember, in my first post on my Buick I mentioned it had 100,000 mile tune up intervals. Well, I never believed it would go 100,000 miles before it needed a tuneup. Truth can be stranger than fiction at times, so a diagnosis is in line. Probably the best spent money I will shell out to fix my car.

My desire in fixing this problem ASAP is to avoid the need for a rebuilt engine. If the unthinkable happened and the engine had a hole burned into a piston or needed a valve job and more, I would call GotEngines.com @ 1-877-268-0664 for the best rebuilt engines available in the US.
