Question: Just had remanufactured engine put in recently and having problems. Engine seems to have a steady miss at idle and hesitates when driving at any speed. Feels like a vacuum leak but cannot locate one. Have new plugs, wires, dist. cap, and some new sensors. Engine light not coming on so no codes. Almost no power after take off. Drinking gas like crazy!! Any suggestions on what may be the problem? Has been running ok until past few days.
Possibilities: Who installed your remanufactured engine? Was it a professional engine shop? If you take it back to shop or person who installed the engine, why don’t they diagnose the problem methodically? Just replacing parts is a waste of money. Just because you did not pick up any codes does not mean their is not a problem, it is not showing, that is all.
If a friend installed it and not a professionally licensed business, than take it to a professional and pay for a diagnosis. Surely you have a warranty on the engine. Did you purchase the engine or did the installation shop purchase it?
I really don’t understand why the company that had remanufactured the engine is not advising you on having the problem diagnosed. Any reputable company would want to know if it is their problem so they can solve it for you. It sounds like you tried to save money in the process and cost yourself more money.
If you had bought a quality remanufactured engine from GotEngines.com and had a reputable engine shop do a competent installation, you would not be in this spot. It is not always about the price. Cheap stuff is not the best stuff and the best stuff is not cheap. That does not mean the best stuff costs the most. The best remanufactured engines may be very close in price to a cheap remanufactured engine. The difference is in exactly what is happening to you.
A remanufactured engine purchased from a competent engine supplier like GotEngines.com would never leave you in this spot. Chances are the problem is not directly in the engine. Regardless, if the engine were the problem, all GotEngines.com engines come with labor warranties. This makes the labor free to you and pays the shop who installed the engine directly for the labor involved in re-swapping remanufactured 4.3L engines. Good Luck.
PS. Don’t forget to check the ECU, we have engine control units for sale..
