The 2.7 L Chrysler Engines, the EER versions were introduced in 1998. It seemed to be plagued by a couple of common problems right from the factory, both of which were eliminated by the factory by 2004.

The engine was affected by an oil sludge problem and premature timing chain tensioner failure, which were fixed around 2002-2004.
