Automotive Repair Videos for The DIY’er…

April 9th, 2009

Talk a lot. That is exactly what Brian of GotEngines.com and I did a lot of while discussing the use of videos as a way to demonstrate and as a learning tool. It seems like a great way to get the idea across.

My studies of do it yourself engine and transmission videos left me dangeling sometimes, not understanding just exactly the meaning of something. In-fact most of them cost a pretty penny and are for the most part for professional mechanics.

Home mechanics or DIY’ers need more details, time and repetition spent on doing certain procedures. While a professional mechanic may say “this is so repetitive, they go over the same thing again and again”, being not so familiar with a procedure or part requires going over the subject until you understand it in terms you are familiar with. When I have to perform a new procedure, I may read the instructions 3-10 times before I really understand and comprehend it, so I can actually perform whatever procedure is at hand properly and uneventfully.

We want suggestions too. You, our readers need to comment on what type of repairs to your engine, in particular, and your car in general, you want so we know what is in demand. Much of this new “vibe” of video training is a function of the economy. During the cycle of lack of money we are experiencing, many more folks, particularly ones with mechanical ability would like to have the knowledge in terms they understand presented to them so money can be saved on repairs.

We will include in each video the tools needed to perform a procedure. Most of the tools are fairly common to most DIY mechanics. Any tools that are considered to be specialty tools, we will list the best suppliers available. Possibly offer the tools directly to you at a discount.

We see more folks taking good care of their cars now. We see an increase in replacement engines. If you read our blog you know how much we put a premium on maintenance. We have maintenance videos as a number one videos. Showing the proper procedures from oil changes to tune ups. Specifications where needed will be provided on a black board in the video and in writing too.

As we proceed with our new venture we will have a specification catatgory on the GotEngines.com Blog, where you can reference the specifications in writing over the internet and copy them for your use.
