My favorite choice as an engine replacement strategy for my 1988 GMC 1 ton 4×4 pickup with a 5.7 liter engine would be a rebuilt, reconditioned or remanufactured Chevrolet engine. They all stand for the same thing. Just different terminology or jargon.
When we discuss rebuilt engines at GotEngines.com (we will use all three engine terminologies in this article), it should be understood that in reality there is only one correct way to rebuild an engine. I call it ‘the complete ‘confidence building’ rebuilt engine.
- camshaft,
- pistons,
- rings,
- valve lifters,
- oil system pump,
- rebuilt or new piston to crank rods..
- timing gears, belts, chains and related components,
- valves,
- rod, main and cam bearings should be replaced with American made OEM , Clevite or the equal primo bearing inserts.
- Cylinder heads should be resurfaced surfaced, have new valve guides or liners installed and valve seats machined or replaced with hi tech 3 angle cutting machines. Aluminum heads should have metal inserts installed in the spark plug threded holes.
