See How Cylinder Heads Are Supposed to be Rebuilt.

February 1st, 2010

The video below is of John @ Costa Mesa R&D Automotive Machine following the procedure to replace the valve guides in the cylinder head of one of the Chevy engines nicknamed the ‘small block’, which is in the process of being rebuilt. It is one of the steps in the entire procedure of fully rebuilding a cylinder head. We call a cylinder head a ”sub assembly” of the engine. This becomes a rebuilt sub assembly.

When I was about 16 years old (1969) I worked in an engine machine shop for about six months. What a riot, the boss taught me how to use the K-W Headshop. This was one of the first modern automotive head rebuilding ”shops”. It is a complete head shop all in one (big machine). Similar to the one in the video. All I can say is that I was lucky and it was more fun than any gear-head punk should have. I loved that stuff, was overly enthusiastic and practically compelled bosses to teach me.
