It may cost more if you worked on your car’s engine first..

April 17th, 2009

It is an old joke, but true. The sign in the engine shop says:

A. $75.00/hr labor

B. $150.00/hr labor if you watch

C. $500.00/hr labor if you give advise to the mechanic

D. $1000.00/hr labor if you already worked on it..

If you’re not of the mechanical sort, then heed this warning. Don’t mess with it, you might even get hurt.

It is very true that once someone without the correct knowledge tries to fix something and messes it up, it is more difficult for the mechanic to get it straightened out and fix it correctly.

Based on this bit of information, if you need a replacement engine in perhaps a Ford F-150 truck, but don’t feel confident about installing it, maybe this strategy will work for you. First you need an engine and as far as I know there is no law that states you can’t do your own research and find your own engine. Most competent shops have no trouble with supplying the labor to install your engine.

First things first. this can be very easy (short of the monetary pain), calling a reputable engine replacement service such as GotEngines.com is a good way to start. At least you can count on getting the best used engine, remanufactured engine or new engine at the best prices around.

Second, every engine that comes from GotEngines.com is certified and pre-tested to prevent you from buying a troublesome engine with a questionable guarantee. I know that engine replacement shops love it when they get a clean reliable engine that runs perfectly from the first time it is started. It saves a lot of trouble for you, the shop and the supplier to get a reliable engine.

A competent shop will also make sure every component related to the success of your new engine is in tip top shape. The cooling system will be checked and refreshed for maximum cooling, all the belts and hoses will be replaced if necessary and the engine mounts will be checked and more than likely replaced. Other systems like the fuel filter and anything that the mechanic should notice is not up to par will be addressed as well at that time

It saves money by knowing your limitations and not getting involved in something as complicated and delicate as an engine swap if you are not prepared to do it properly.

Many times satisfied customers have left comments in this blog from GotTransmissions.com saying “there has not been a trace of a problem with the engine or quality of the installation after picking up our car”.

What sweeter words can an engine supplier or installation shop hear?
