Realistic and logical gasoline saving ideas…

May 21st, 2009

As frustrating as it has become to afford a tank of gas since the fuel gauge looks like it is on empty all the time, GotEngines.com Blog suggests trying some different ideas to save gas or improve mileage. Always make sure your car is running as good as it can be. This can be done by performing a tune up or drive-abiliy checkout, which generally consists of spark plugs, plug wires, air filter, fuel filter, and distributor cap and rotor if applicable.

If you have a fuel injected car and the check engine light is on you may have a problem that is costing you a lot of extra fuel. The car will then be running in a “limp” mode which usually consists of using extra fuel for the safety of the engine and transmission. Things such as the MAP sensor will cause the engine to use extra gas also.

My experience with these issues starts with hooking up a scan tool to the DLC and checking for codes. The nest step is to go through the function testing procedures related to the whole car. Assuming all systems check out, and the vehicle is in good tune and has no driveability problems, you have done all you can do to get the best fuel mileage possible.

The other strategy for improving fuel mileage is simply modify your driving habits. Accelerate slower, coast to stop lights and stop signs. Use common sense in your driving habits is the best medicine if you want to improve gas consumption.

Simply put, there are no sensationalistic ‘top secrects’ when it comes to saving fuel. Don’t get bitten by a snake oil salesman when being approached with a new device that will up your fuel economy.

Follow the advise our customers at GotEngines.com use. Common sense and good driving habits along with a properly running vehicle. That is your main solution to beating the fuel economy burden.
