Something I need to speak about and am sure I have not is the subject of additives for automobile engines and engine oils. Yes, the additives that make bold claims, like to reseal a blown head gasket or renew a completely worn out engine in 10 minutes.

Go into an auto parts store and look at the tremendous assortment of additives for your engine that claim to cure everything. It is pretty confusing to say the least. As far as I’m concerned, 99% or more of it is snake oil my friends, read on:

To illustrate the whole point about additives, consider this. In the manufacture of synthetic oils, once the synthetic polyol ester bases are created, anti-wear additives such as zinc dithiophosphates (essentially combination’s of zinc, phosphorous, and sulfurous molecules) are added. These combination’s are extremely effective as anti-oxidant, anti-wear, anti-corrosion inhibitors. Now look at the contents of some of the after-market additives. Wow! Zinc, phosphorous and sulphour! Imagine that. Those aftermarket additives are actually exactly what your oil manufacturer has put in already.

Consider further that some oil companies actually make a point of telling you not to use aftermarket additives with their oils.

So if these additives are so brilliant, why do the companies always seem to end up in trouble? Well – misleading advertising and non-active “active” ingredients claim a lot of victims.
Infact, many of these ‘special’ additives for engines can create more problems in the long run, while solving virtually nothing. If you find yourself examining the additive shelf in your local discount parts place thinking about buying a can of this or that to cure a small issue such as a leak or engine miss. Take my advise please, seek professional help.

To put it simply, any good quality engine oil has all the additives it needs. If you are looking to solve problems with an engine additive, then you probably believe in the tooth fairy too. Really, how do you think engine repair shops stay in business? If these magical potions really worked so good, we would not need mechanics.

Don’t live in denial, if you are thinking it’s time for a magical snake oil engine additive, than lets get real, it is probably time to have a real person we call a mechanic evaluate your problem. Snake oil salesmen were eventuality run out of town in the cowboy days as soon as people found out the product did not work.

Many of the engine additives have come and gone, many of the existing ones have lawsuits against them for not meeting expectations and advertising promises. If you have a legitimate engine problem and might need a replacement engine, Call GotEngines.com @ 1-888-344-8044. We sell no snake oil.
