Last week my wife and I went to a seminar on biofuels at the St. Lucie County Cooperative Extension Office. The presentation was put on for citrus growers and larger growers in general. The area of Florida we live in counts/counted on for much of the income and employment from citrus. Since citrus has not grown so well here and is in decline for years, growers want to look at the possibly growing different crops, some crops for alternative biofuels grow well in Florida.
Some companies actually run all of their farm equipment and car engines on biofuels, in fact they are looking at becoming self sustaining, since they grow the crops that produce the agriculture that has the proper ‘oil seeds’. The process of squeezing the oil out of the seeds and making into biofuels to power their farm equipment is not so technical that becoming self sustaining may be a good possibility for many growers.
Basically, it was a presentation for growers with mass quantities of land, however, we grow on a small level at home and were interested in the seminar. The article on biofuels is presented well so please read it.
The seminar really made me think a lot about the future of fuels, and how we can use the methods we saw in the presentation. Which had speakers from Alaska and California. Much effort is being put in to these projects all over the country, some of these methods will be successful and help us be less dependent on foreign oil. The speaker from Alaska spoke on how her town is weaning off of gasoline and foreign oil.
Enjoy. And, think about it. GotEngines.com @ 1-888-344-8044.
