2RZE-FE Engine For Sale

The 2RZF-E Toyota Tacoma engine [the Hilux was the original name of the truck] was an extremely popular small truck engine, it has been upgraded many times (staying with the current technologies) since 1968 when the Hilux was first introduced. When the Hilux first came out, it was powered by the smallest R-engine variant, the 2R, a 1.5 liter 4-cylinder motor. It was upgraded many times, while maintaining only 4-cylinders. Now the engines are bigger and more powerful and come with turbo chargers, diesel engines with turbochargers are available too. Some pickup truck models have larger displacement V6 engines.

Toyota R Engine
The R series engines were chosen by Toyota as the primary engines to power the Toyota Hilux pickup trucks. The R engine came in 13 forms from 1968 to 1995. The models included:
2R,
3R,
8R,
8R-C,
8R-E,
12R,
18R,
18R-C,
18R-E,
20R,
22R,
22R-E, and the
22R-TE

As mentioned earlier, the original 2R was only 1.5 liters which is smaller than some current motorcycle engines for example. Although expanded several times and many factory modifications and upgrades were performed throughout it’s run, ending with the final 2.4 liter 22R-E used in 1995. The 22R has stood the test of time for it’s durability and trouble free lifespan. Considered to be one of the best Toyota engines ever, known more for longevity and reliability than power, we have heard many times of engines being able to reach 300,000 miles.

Toyota VZ Engine
The VZ engines by Toyota were the first V6 engines in the Toyota pickup line. The VZ engine runs on gasoline and used electronic fuel injection and controls exclusively. The pickups used the 3VZ engine from 1988 to 1995. In came the 5VZ-FE. Displacement was increased from 3.0 Liters to 3.4 liters. The 5VZ-FE is known as one of the best V6 Toyota engines ever by it’s owners. Hilux owners with a 3VZ engine failure often swap out to a 5VZ rather than rebuilding or replacing a 3VZ with problems or high miles.

Toyota RZ Engine
As a sign of the times, some models of Hilux went back to 4-cylinders [for fuel economy] with the RZ in 1996. The RZ is a family of three different 4-cylinder engines: 1RZ-E, 2RZ-FE and 3RZ-FE. With only 4 cylinders, the new engines power output was as high as some of the V6 engines, with better economy.

Their displacements were 2.0 liters, 2.4 liters, and 2.7 liters. The 2RZ was introduced in 1995 and discontinued production in 2004 in the Hilux. Still in use to this day.
