The 2.5Liter V-6 engine was a 24 valve per cylinder engine with a (SOHC) single overhead camshaft system. Called the 6G73 by Mitsubishi and Chrysler Corporation. Coming out of the factory hooked up to automatic transmissions in the Chrysler Cirrus and Dodge Stratus only. Used as a base engine in other Mopar and Mitsubishi products.

Design metrics based around the 3.0-liter Mitsubishi V-6 engines allowed populating the engine compartments of the Mitsubishi and bulk of Chrysler Corporation minivans too.

Designed for more torque value at lower rpm’s (revolutions per minute) for smoother and faster power in the normal driving range accompanied the power increase throughout the whole power band.

I had a mild confusing moment when I decided to write about what is called the ’6G’ engine, for short. Because Pontiac made a car called the 6G made from 2004 to 2009. Which used General motors engines, so if that is why your here, wrong brand of car, but don’t leave, we can service you as well.

The engines built jointly by Mopar/Chrysler are global motors, meaning that they are not necessarily brand specific. Although Chrysler and Mitsubishi have other common chassis and features in certain vehicles.

More power was the main reason the 6G was discontinued, or to be more accurate, expanded to a larger cubic inch or CC size for a more powerful engine with the same fuel economy as the 2.7 by using additional technology to introduce the fuel air mixture.

Simply put, this was one of those motors that went about it’s business without complaining. While having no exceptional credentials to brag about, it also did it’s job in silence. Anonymity is s good thing, nothing super good or super bad to say, it was simply time for few upgrades when it was decided to discontinue said engine.
