Sometimes life puts us in a precarious predicament where we need to make a decision on something we have little or no experience with, and with the potential to be quite expensive. One such case is the decision to purchase an engine for sale or fix your old engine. Most people don’t have enough information on this subject to know when you may be spending good money after bad money.

Reading more articles related to this subject in our GotEngines.com Blog certainly will help. However this article is a direct response to a question one of our readers asked the other day. Basically, having some idea of what decision to make is in your best interest, and not wasting money is the goal here.

For instance, if you owned a Saturn S-Series, SL-2 automobile, and in the middle of US. HWY. #1 on a hot day your car overheated and quit running. What would you do? Probably have your car towed to your favorite mechanic for a diagnosis. Diagnosis is the keyword here, since work should never be started without a diagnosis.

Here is the scenario, the car got so hot it actually warped the cylinder head, which is aluminum in this case, and obviously you would also need to fix why it over heated. Which, in most cases would be a cooling system problem. Perhaps a bad water pump and or radiator. It would be wise to get an estimate on the repair first, then compare it with the cost of a replacement engine.

The reason I say this is that A. The engine may have a bunch of miles on it, where as more internal engine parts are either, also worn badly or damaged from overheating, or the actual parts cost, combined with the labor may actually not be much different than a replacement low mileage guaranteed used engine. B. My experience with the JDM engine replacement option, suggests it is more cost effective than fixing your tired old engine in the long run.

Regardless of whether your choice in replacement engines is a low mileage used engine that came out of a wrecked car or a JDM engine that has only 40,000 miles may be the deciding difference. And, only you can decide that, ultimately. Realistically speaking, if the cost difference is not more than several hundred dollars and you plan on keeping the car, why fix an old engine for a lot of money, where it most likely will re fail with another serious problem, due to age, the best decision would be to replace the whole engine with a low mileage used engine or a JDM engine.

Only you can decide. If you want to know more, even after reading our blog, call GotEngines.com @ 1-877-268-0664 and speak with one of the representatives. After listening to the problem and your needs, they can help you make a decision that is in your best interest.
