Ford Ranger Engines: The Honest and Reasonable Pickup

January 14th, 2009

If you drive a new Ford Ranger first time two things come to your mind for this powerful compact Pickup truck that it is ‘honest and reasonable’. The time of our market couldn’t be better for the Ranger. For truck lovers, the Ranger is the perfect fuel efficient truck while prices of gas have been soaring and a majority of the economies budgets have tightened up. The ranger delivers both good mileage and the requirement of a midsize truck in every home…”performance”. Various ratings in the United States put this compact pickup truck among the top slots because of its reviews received from all over the US.

The Ford Ranger has been criticized on the grounds that the compact pickup cannot match the refined performance, safety features and the interior quality with its competitors. However you cannot expect everything from a compact pickup truck. For every vehicle has certain limits and so has the ranger. The Ford pickup gets mediocre ratings yet has the capacity for effective off roading and light towing and hauling. Today buyers look for more car-like performance from pickups in matters of comfort, four doors and mid-range engines, and the Ranger is able to deliver to some extent all these.

Fuel Economy Vehicle:
The Ford Ranger engine features and specs make the Ford Ranger a perfect fuel economic vehicle. It is indeed the best fuel economy in this class. The average fuel economy of the four-wheel drive vehicle is 15 miles per gallon in city and 20 miles per gallon on highways.

Performance Options:
The performance of the truck is based on the choice of the Ford Ranger engines. The 2 wheel-drive Regular and Super Cab models come with a standard 2.3 liter double overhead camshaft I4 engine. The horsepower counts to 143 horsepower with a 154 pound-feet of torque. Besides that, you also have optional engines for the Regular and Super Cab respectively which are – a 3.0-liter, 148-horsepower V6 and a 4.0-liter DIS, 207-horsepower V6 engine. The vehicles come with five speed manual transmissions along with an option of five speed automatic transmission.

The 4 wheel-drive Regular Cab comes with a mid level engine. It is a 3.0-liter V6 with a maximum horsepower of 148 hp, and 180 pound-feet of torque. You have an optional version of this pickup truck with a 4.0-liter V6 engine. You have both options of five-speed manual and automatic transmissions of which the later is optional.

The 4 Wheel-Drive Superb Cab comes with a 4.0-liter single overhead camshaft V6 engine which can put out a sheer power of 207 horsepower along with 238 pound feet torque. The transmission option is similar to the 4WD regular cab.

The average time to reach the feat of 60 miles per hour for the standard version of engine is less than 10 seconds. The most upgraded 4.0l engine can achieve the required benchmark in less than 9 seconds.
