One of the best, most durable engines. When faced with the option of a 5.0L V-8 or a 4.9L I6, get the 4.9. More torque, bulletproof and easy to work on. My best friend in High School had a 1979 F-100 with a 4.9L which his dad had owned since new. At 180,000 miles he pulled the engine, inspected the crank and cylinder and we were amazed at the lack of wear. He stuck the engine in a barrel of oil to preserve for future use.
