I can remember rebuilding a few engines in my 48 plus years of being a mechanic. Although I’m 56 years old, I was goofing around with lawn mower engines when I was 4 years old. I didn’t go to college, I became a mechanic, as far as I was concerned I was a cheap kid to bring up compared to my two highly educated sisters. Except for a half dozen self propelled and riding lawn mowers and go carts and mini bikes and contraption I assembled myself, I cost hardly anything to raise!

When a person has a propensity for something and enjoys it, it can be nurtured from a young age and developed. Kids in general are not scared of anything. I was not scared to look at our old reel type lawn mower with a Clinton Engine and take it apart, clean it up and put it back together. Heck, my neighbor, Dr. Jaeger (D.J.) showed me how to make my own gaskets back then.

He really nurtured my abilities, partly because he was a skilled orthopedist, (an orthopedist is a bone surgeon), and very mechanical. Partly because he had 2 girls and my parents would lend me to him when I was available (almost everyday) as his son. It was great.

I learned young how to rebuild car engines, I rebuilt the engine in a 1958 Thunderbird when I was 14 years old, I rebuilt my 1966 Corvettes “427 Big Block Rat Motor” and my 1966 Ford Mustang-Shelby w/ a 289 CID/ 306 HP engine and countless lawnmower, toy airplane and whatever engines I could get my hands on, or friends would ask me to do for them.

I learned from the best their is only one way to rebuild an engine the right way. Someone once told me “an engine is the easiest part of a car to rebuild wrong, and the hardest part of a car to rebuild right”. Personally, transmissions are a bigger challenge, but in the end, it’s all nuts and bolts to me.

The correct way make take a bit longer and more involved, but it does not have to cost more. Would a well rebuilt engine cost more to buy than a poorly rebuilt engine. Not always, how can you tell by looking at the outside? No way. The interesting thing about it is the basic paradigm of rebuilding engines the right way has not changed.

Some of the components on the engine are more modern now and we have computerized cars too with all sorts of luxury items, but theoretically, engines still operate the same way that the first ICE by Otto operated.

My advise to you if you need a rebuilt engine is to check out GotEngines.com @ 1-877-268-0664. They still believe in old world craftsmanship and giving the customer more than they bargained for. A lot of things have changed in the world of engines over the years. What has not changed is that the best products, especially rebuilt engines and other hi dollar items, are really a good value when the job is done right.
