To continue with my maintenance project on my Buick Wagon we will go through the procedures needed in order to make sure we finish out our project in full. I’m not at all interested in buying items for my car that could have been prevented from failing early, like a rebuilt engine in particular.
Specifically we want to check the:
1. Power steering fluid, brake fluid, radiator and antifreeze. Making note of the condition of each one of these fluids and if they need to be maintained.
2. Examine the belt or belts, which ever applies, for cracks or shredding. Replace it/them every 2 years or 24,000 miles for added confidence.
3. Check the air filter in the intake system and any emissions filters, replace as necessary. Remember that a clogged air filter reduces engine performance and gasoline savings.
4. Spray with WD-40 or the equivalent: hood hinges, hood release mechanism, throttle cable, all cables, anything that common sense says needs lubricating. WD-40 is good for rubber bushings and mounts too. It will not damage paint.
The last and most important items to check under the hood are the engine oil level after you put the proper amount of oil in the engine and run it for few minutes, to check for leaks. Turn the engine off and let it sit for few minutes before you check it. I have actually made the acquaintance of a person who forgot to put oil in the car and started it. Well it did not leak, but that person needed a rebuilt engine for his Nissan after that..And check the automatic transmission fluid exactly like the factory manual that comes with the car describes..
That’s it, a full maintenance and service job on my, or any vehicle. That is our recommendation at GotEngines.com blog. If you have anything more to add please leave a comment. Got a question? We answer them for free, heck, I may even do a blog on it..Enjoy.
