3RZF-E engine for sale

August 3rd, 2010

This venerable Toyota engine for sale has 2.7Litres of displacement and is a terrific engine. Trouble free for all practical purposes. I ran across this problem on a forum, it seems like this is not an engine specific problem, but a problem with a component directly related to the engine, but not the engine, read on:

Question: I have a 2004 hilux 2.7ltr 3rz-fe engine…..

in the last couple off weeks i’ve noticed my car is loosing power and when i put my foot down to take off the car is sluggish and eventually when it reaches about 40 – 60kmh in 2nd it kicks in and drive normal and then wen i change to 3rd and put my foot down after changing gear it does it again………. pretty much in every gear is sluggish till it reaches a certain speed in every gear…..no engine light comes on.

when it idles and i rev it is still does it but not as bad as when im driving. idle speed is like normal i cant see hear or see any miss firing of the engine. idle is smooth…..

i recently changed the fuel filter, spark plugs, air filter, cleaned the air sensor, and tested my leads and they are fine……. pulled my fuel injectors out and cleaned them…. cleaned my throttle body, and changed my airfilter…….and the problem is still there…

anyone have any ideas of what it might be…..?

Answer: You have checked out most of the systems. The question I have concerning the exams are, did a professional with a professional scan tool do any diagnostic checks, or did you just decide to change parts? Because just changing parts and hoping it will work out is a waste of time and money.

By the way, would you call your doctor if you had a tummy ache and ask him what it is without an exam? Hardly. So, asking a bunch of non automotive specialists over an internet forum has no possibility of success unless you prove the point with a diagnosis before action is taken.

My suggestion is to have your catalytic converter checked by a professional. It sounds like your exhaust is restricted. Every symptom you mentioned suggests that. I have been a professional mechanic for 48 years and with your description, I would have hooked up my scan tool and started looking for an occlusion in the system.

If the exhaust can’t get out fast enough, the air and gas can’t fill the combustion chamber with fresh fuel/air mixture. Thus causing the problems you described. Good luck and let me know. If you have any concerns regarding a replacement engine, feel free to call and ask for an education in how to choose the best engine for your needs. GotEngines.com
