What to do if your Car-Toyota Acellerates out of control.

February 3rd, 2010

We think the problem with Toyota Engines accelerating all of a sudden is a real safety threat, as a courtesy to our customers and readers, we wanted to add this post. Loss of control of your car in any respect is unnerving and can make your legs feel like jelly if it happens to you and you live.

As Toyota deals with a recall and a sales moratorium on eight of its American models, readers may be wondering what action they should take if they find themselves in a car with an engine accelerating out of control. Some drivers have tried to turn off the ignition, but found that their steering wheels locked up, creating another hazard. And other drivers have been unable to figure out how to turn off cars with push-button ignitions.

Watch this video, if this does not wake you up, then you are at the wrong place.

The good folks at Consumer Reports filed a video on the subject last month:

The basics of what to do are:

• Brake firmly. Do not pump the brakes.

• Put the car into neutral. On most automatic transmissions, this means moving the selection lever one notch toward the Park position.

• Once the car is stopped, turn off the ignition.

Because many drivers may not be used to putting their cars in neutral, Consumer Reports recommended trying out the maneuver in a safe place — an empty parking lot, for instance first. We think this is a great idea, practice a few times to save your life.GotEngines.com @ 1-888-344-8044.
