Just had a used engine installed….

September 6th, 2009

Question: Just had a used engine installed in my 2001 Maxima, everything works fine except when you start it now it has a delayed reaction and kick in and out. Mechanic changed starter and same thing. I am using carĀ but every start up is not smooth like it used to be.Any ideas….

Answer: If the timing is off the check engine light should come on with a sensor code, you will have to check the engine codes to see if any are stored, you can have an Auto Zone do this for you for free, if you have one close to you , This should help to figure this out, I would also check fuel pressureĀ if it takes a long time to start you could be loosing fuel pressure back to the tank, and you will have to crank a long time to build the pressure back up to start the engine, I also have had some engines with a bad ground at the starter motor this will cause the engine to kick back when cranking, I hope this helps.

The bottom line is if the engine was purchased from one of the leading used engine suppliers, at least one of the suppliers who pre-tests their used engines, it would be safe to assume the engine was not the culprit. With that in mind, much work and money many be able to be saved by doing your homework first and finding a company like GotEngines.com @ 1-888-344-8044, one who cares about the customers experience.
