MZI is a small straight-4 automobile engine sold by Mazda as the “MZI” and by Ford Motor Company as the “Zetec-SE” and renamed Duratec. Used engines for both the Mazda and Fords are abundantly available and afford-ably priced. Understanding that in Europe the emission laws are stricter, which requires most cars in Europe to require replacement with new engines to meet the government laws. Which mean large quantities of these engines are available with 40,000 miles, give or take a few thousand.
The Duratec 25 is a 2.5Â L (155Â CID) V6 and was introduced in 1994. It was developed for the Ford Contour and used in many other Ford products. The Duratec 25 is an outstanding engine offering long life and good reliability.
An SVT version produced in 1998 made 195Â hp. When further improvements were made in 1999 that raised power output to 200Â hp and were continued in the 2000 model. The SVT engine was used in the 1998-2000 Ford Contour SVT.
