Believe it or not, a few years ago I was looking at engines for my 1970 Porsche 911S.  The car had been in a restoration mode for 2 years and the old engine just would not run anymore. The piston rings lost their tension which caused no compression and the 6 Zenith Carbs were gummed up. I had a problem. Pricing out an engine from Porsche cost more than the car cost new in 1970, which was about $7000.00 dollars. I know, you probably don’t believe it, but I was there when Dr. Jaeger bought it at Manhattan Motors in Gaithersburg Maryland. I was about 17 at the time.

I only had 3 ways to go, rebuild my old engine, buy a factory rebuilt engine or buy a used engine. After pricing the Porsche engine, I immediately crossed that off my list. Doing my own rebuild was almost as expensive as buying one from the dealer. The rebuild parts are exceptionally expensive, as all OEM (original equipment manufacturers) P- Car parts are.

The hunt was on, I needed a good used foreign car engine. I spent a good 2 or 3 months searching around to find a good engine that I could afford. I mean that about 30,000 dollars was put into this restoration and I did not want to cut corners now, but I was not prepared to spend nearly $10,000 on a Porsche engine.

Another thing I was interested in was upgrading the motor from a 2.4L with the 6 carbs to a 1977 2.7L with Bosh CIS fuel injection. I always hated the carburetors. It sounds cool to say you have 6 Zenith carbs, but man, are they a a pain in my tush or what?

So after much bumbling around I located a company on the Internet who has a super buy on a 1977 2.7L RS engine with the Bosh Fuel injection. In fact, the engine had been rebuilt about a year earlier by the Porsche dealer before the car was crashed. His loss was my gain. After I got the engine it had the factory rebuild numbers on it. True to the company I bought it from, what they said was true about the engine being a factory rebuild. Apparently they checked it out first.

With that being said, the motor was shipped out from their warehouse and I got it in a few days. What was most impressive other than the time and service I was given by this company, was the price was ridiculously low, and he offered me a money back warranty if it was not what the engine was said to be.

I bought the used engine from them and it has run better than I expected, in fact it flat out has more power and speed than I have nerve to use. Now it will peg the 150 MPH speedo easily. It was my first experience with buying used engines for sale. If you are interested in who I bought the engine from, Call GotEngines.com @ 1-877-268-0664. Trust me, these guys are the best. Period.
