This article is going to be a quick one, but there seems to be some confusion on what exactly a used engine is and what a second hand engine is. Most people don’t use these terms for engines much, but to clear things up here you go…
A reconditioned engine means it’s been remanufactured. Another term for this is refurbished (also not a term used widely in the auto industry). Basically a remanufactured engine is a used engine that has been brought back to like new condition. There are also rebuilt engines, but a rebuilt engine doesn’t mean it’s been fully rebuilt. A rebuilt engine could just have a few things rebuilt to get it running again, which is a bad choice, making a used engine look good.
A second hand or used engine, basically just means it’s a used engine. Again, a lot of people don’t tell you they are looking for second hand engines, they ask for a used engine. From time to time we get the occasional customer who calls in and asks for a second hand engine or a reconditioned engine, so I thought I’d quickly give the run-down on what they actually are.

Getting second hand engine or used engine can be considered as risky than getting remanufactured engine.As the second hand engine are handled by car mechanic whereas remanufactured engine are looked by the engine manufacturer to whom we can trust.
