What’s the deal about Isuzu? The Isuzu engines, of course! The very beginnings of Isuzu began way back in 1916 started in a somewhat convoluted way with an agreement between a local shipbuilding company and a utility company located in Tokyo. What would have been the first car in the Isuzu ancestral line, the Wolseley A-9 was built two years later. A few years later, in 1922, a truck came onto the scene. By 1934, the truck was renamed Isuzu, and the brand name was born—but the company did not take it on as it as the company name until 1949.
It wasn’t until 1972 that an Isuzu vehicle, branded as the American Chevrolet LUV was sold. Then, a decade later, Isuzu finally began to sell its own brand of vehicles in the United States. By the late 1980s, Isuzu joined up with Fuji, the parent company for Subaru, to create Subaru Isuzu Automotive. In 1996, Isuzu’s sales reach an all-time high, and then, begin to drop, slowly.
Once 2005 rolls around, Isuzu dealers literally only have two different models on their showroom floors—the i-series truck and the Ascender, which was an SUV. By then end of 2007, Isuczu had barely sold more than seven thousand cars in the United States. Finally, Isuzu opted to pull their passenger vehicles out of the market, and instead concentrate on trucks, and diesel engines. Isuzu will continue to provide the needed parts that buyers require.
