Remember those dark VIP cars that were sleek, gorgeous, and made you just drool with envy wanting one?  Those would be the British-made Jaguars—some of the most elegant, powerful, smoothest driving cars in the world.  What makes a Jaguar drive so gracefully, like a powerful cat?  Jaguar engines, of course!  Packed with power, perfectly engineered, Jaguars run so smoothly, it’s as if you are in a dream.

Listed in the luxury class of vehicles, the Jaguar has little competition to its status as the quintessential luxury car.  Started back in 1922, the Jaguar was originally called the Swallow Sidecar Company by two gentlemen who were really into motorcycles—and it took off from there.  Sir William Lyons and William Walmsley had a good idea of what they were doing.  Over the course of about thirteen years, the Swallow Sidecars turned into sedans that were quite elegant looking, and the name Jaguar was give to one of these models.

During World War II, the Swallow Sidecar company experienced a lull in popularity. But after the war came to a close, the company re-emerged with a re-branded look, name and logo: the iconic Jaguar name.  After the name change, Jaguar’s popularity began to grow again, and it started to go through some growing pains—having to buy some plants to make more automobiles at, and merging with other companies.

Needing more money to grow, and keep up the beautiful cars it continues to make, Jaguar allowed itself to be bought by Ford Motor Company in 1989, with the permission of its shareholders.  It stayed under Ford’s wing for ten years until 2008, when Tata Motors of India bought it.  Now, parts of the Jaguars are mass-produced in India, allowing for more to be made.
