Mercury engines have a long and interesting history beginning with the development of the Mercury mark by Edsel Ford (son of Henry Ford) in 1939. Ford wanted to create an entry-level luxury brad that was part of the Ford brad, but was a step above the regular Ford models.

At first, Mercury was its own separate Ford division. Ford produced Mercury vehicles that were entirely different from existing Ford brands. This division didn’t quite turn out the way that Edsel Ford has envisioned, which is why Mercury was combined with Lincoln.

In 1945, Ford combined Mercury with Lincoln (also part of the Ford company). Briefly, the division was combined with Lincoln to form Lincoln-Mercury-Edsel. In 1960, the Edsel brand was diminished, leaving the Lincoln-Mercury brand that remains today.

Today’s Mercury motors are, essentially, Ford motors. Almost all Mercury engines for sale are extremely similar to various models sold under the Ford mark. In fact, almost all previous Mercury models were based upon Ford models (only the Mercury versions were stretched or lowered to create a different look).

Since the Ford Motor Company is well-known around the globe for producing excellent, reliable, automobiles, Mercury often enjoys the same recognition. Recently, Ford has decided to create smaller Mercury brands in the hopes that consumers will recognize Mercury as being an eco-friendly, compact car brand.

Ford also plans to create a new line of Mercury automobiles that will be targeted to an upscale market. Even though Mercury has come a long way since its beginnings, this Ford brand still includes all the manufacturing and motor details that Fords have always been associated with.

There are lots of Mercury motors for sale around the globe, but purchasing any Mercury motor might be a mistake. Any present Mercury owner should ensure that a Mercury motor be purchased from a reputable dealer. Otherwise, these motors may be flawed.

This is precisely why GotEngines.com has thousands of Mercury motors for clients to select from. Not only do we have the Mercury motor that you need, but we also offer all of our clients’ unparalleled expertise.
