The BMW MINI was originally based upon the Mini that was manufactured by the British Motor Corporation. Although the two cars look alike, BMW is not associated with the British Motor Corporation. Mini motors are often compared to BMW motors, which is why the car is so popular today.
The first generation of MINI’s was developed between 1995 and 2001. MINI’s that were manufactured in the United Kingdom were developed by the Rover Group. MINI’s that were manufactured in Germany were developed by BMW.
The Rover Group and BMW had differing opinions as to the look and style of the MINI. Thus, both companies continuously fought over the development of the MINI. In the end, BMW’s sportier MINI concept won over Rover’s practical concept.
Eventually, the Rover Group left the MINI project altogether (due to some discrepancies), leaving BMW to control the entire MINI line. Thus, mini engines are often compared to BMW engines, which are some of the best motors in the world.
BMW released four hatchback MINI models from 2001 to 2006. These models included the Mini One, the Mini One/D, the Mini Cooper, and the Mini Cooper S. All of these models include different Mini motors.
The Mini One that was released in Portugal and Greece was originally powered by a 1.4 litre Tritec motor. However, all other MINI models around the globe were powered by a 1.6 litre version of the Tritec motor. These are the two major distinctions between the first MINI motors ever placed inside of the BMW MINI.
Nearly every MINI model has a different motor inside of it. Mini motors range from the 1.39L motor to the AC Propulsion motor that is powered by 13.5 V. BMW continues to develop the MINI line, since these automobiles have proven to be extremely popular worldwide.
