The Plymouth automobile company was manufactured by the Chrysler Corporation and DaimlerChrysler from 1928 to 2001. Although the company no longer exists today, Plymouth motors are still highly sought after.

In July of 1928, the first Plymouth automobile was introduced. The Chrysler Corporation created this first Plymouth automobile in order to present consumers with a car that was affordable and aesthetically pleasing.

Even though Plymouths were slightly more expensive than other cars in their class, consumers loved the look of the first Plymouths. During the Great Depression, Plymouth increased its automobile sales, while other car companies floundered. This was largely due to Plymouth motors, which proved to be highly durable and reliable.

Throughout the Great Depression, Plymouth’s (highly successful) logo was “the economy of a four; the smoothness of a six.” This logo was in direct response to Ford’s six cylinder motors, which were (at the time) immensely popular.

Plymouth enjoyed a steady customer based during the late 1950s, when the car company was known for its engineering, cost-effectiveness, and excellent Plymouth motors. Consumers loved the look of the 1950-1960s Plymouths, which were (in many ways) ahead of their time.

Unfortunately, the 1980s did not prove to be a successful time for the Plymouth mark. Plymouth began making cars that were far too similar to models already produced by Chrysler, Dodge, and Mitsubishi. Taking note of these similarities, consumers stopped purchasing Plymouth models.

The second generation Plymouth Neon was the last car to be manufactured under the Plymouth name. Even though Plymouth engines were still as efficient as they ever were, consumers did not enjoy the look of newer Plymouth models.
