Pontiac is a division of General Motors. The brand was originally introduced in 1926 in an effort to provide consumers with athletic cars that were also affordable. In fact, the first Pontiac to ever roll off the assembly line was the Pontiac Chief – a car that was as powerful as the Native American, Chief Pontiac, himself.

The Pontiac Chief had an L-head straight 6-cylinder motor and the shortest stroke of any other American car on the market at the time. Consumers that wanted a rugged car flocked to the Chief, and Pontiac sold 39,000 cars within six months.

During the 1980s, Pontiac introduced the Firebird Trans-Am – a car that would quickly turn into a legend. While the 1980s were a smash success for Pontiac motors, the 1990s did not turn out quite as well.

When Pontiac began introducing minivans, SUVs, and average cars, consumers stopped paying attention to Pontiac. For decades, Pontiac had been known as a rugged muscle car, which meant that power-seeking consumers were no longer interested in the Pontiac brand once Pontiac began developing regular cars.

In April of 2009, General Motors made an announcement that it would eliminate the Pontiac brand completely by 2010. Today, there are still many Pontiacs on the road, though the cars are about to turn into collector’s items.

When it comes to selecting Pontiac motors, don’t take a chance on a dealer that’s not reputable. Only a dealer that knows about Pontiac’s powerful past and short-lived future should be trusted. Otherwise, you are bound to purchase a motor that won’t suit the Pontiac that you have.

Whether you know just what you need (or whether you have no idea at all), we can help you find the right motor for your car, truck, minivan, or SUV.
