Porsche motor roots can be traced all the way back to 1930. A man by the name of Professor Ferdinand Porsche founded the Dr. Ing. h. c. F Porsche GmbH Company during that time. Originally, Porsche created worked on vehicle concepts and offered consulting, though he did not build any cars with the Porsche name.
It was not until 1939 that the first Porsche 64 was created. Interestingly, the 64 was constructed using various parts from Volkswagen’s Beetle – Porsche developed the first Volkswagen, so this wasn’t too much of a stretch. In addition, Porsche began to create various heavy tank designs for the German army during World War II.
When the war ended, Ferdinand Porsche was arrested for war crimes, though his son, Ferry Porsche, largely took over the car making business. Ferry Porsche produced the 356 Porsche model, which would set the precedent for Porsche motors that exists today.
Even though Ferdinand Porsche never got to see the Porsche 911 (he later died of a stroke) this was the one Porsche that would remain a legend. The Porsche 911 included a boxer motor, which proved to be highly popular.
Later, Porsche teamed up with Toyota in the hopes that the company could learn more about Japanese production procedures. Presently, the Porsche company is experimenting with hybrid technology that will appeal to many eco-friendly consumers.
Porsche motors is set to introduce the hybrid coupe, the Porsche Panamera, towards the end of 2011. Today, Porsche engines are some of the finest in the world. From average city streets to race tracks around the globe, the strong following that Porsche has does not waver.
